The cards required by RCW 29A.08.240 must be kept on file in the office of the secretary of state in the manner that will be most convenient for, and for the sole purpose of, checking initiative and referendum petitions. The secretary may maintain an automated file of voter registration information for any county or counties in lieu of filing or maintaining these voter registration cards if the automated file includes all of the information from the cards including, but not limited to, a retrievable facsimile of the signature of each voter of that county or counties. The automated file may be used only for the purpose authorized for the use of the cards.
