(a)   (1)   The Governor may offer a reward in the name of the State for
information that leads to the arrest and conviction of an individual
who causes the death of any of the following individuals who is killed
in the performance of duty:
      (i)   a law enforcement officer of the State or a political subdivision of
the State;
      (ii)   a career or volunteer member of a fire department or ambulance or
rescue squad; or
      (iii)   a sworn member of the office of State Fire Marshal.
    (2)   On request of the State's Attorney of the county in which the death
occurred, the Governor may set a reward for the information in an
amount not exceeding $25,000 in each case.
    (3)   The determination of the Governor of the individual to whom a reward is
to be paid is conclusive.
  (b)   The Governor shall include in the State budget each year the amount of
any reward made under this section.
